Art
Most of the artists of Art From the Streets are untrained. Like any artist, the works they produce are personal expressions of the world they confront each day and their reactions to it. Not surprisingly, they also use art to escape reality or to express an alternative vision of what might be – imagining a world of peace, beauty, and innocence – in contrast to the hardships they encounter on a daily basis. Critics refer to this kind of art as “Outsider art” or “Visionary art,” because it is often produced by people living somehow outside the mainstream culture, who produce work that’s outside the mainstream art world. You will also notice a number of trained artists in the Art From the Streets show who have been influenced by many styles and currents of the art world such as Impressionism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Action Painting, Op Art and Pop Art.
